The CARN and CARN-AP is available to all IntNSA members who can provide evidence they hold a current, full, and unrestricted license as a registered nurse (RN) in the United States, its territories or Canada. Given the developmental history of IntNSA as an organisation (i.e. USA based addiction nursing organisations), the CARN and CARN-AP has been developed and mapped against the scope and practice of nurses working within the USA.

Whilst Non-US or Canadian nurses who meet eligibility criteria are also invited to apply for the CARN examination they must submit evidence of equivalent licensure as an RN.

As IntNSA grows its membership and expands its international footprint, consideration will be given to adapting the CARN and CARN-AP for members practicing in different regions where certification is becoming increasingly important for nurses to demonstrate their proficiency in a nursing specialty area. e.g. CARN-Europe
